Most people are familiar with Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (aka “THC” in most circles). Delta-9 THC is the main psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis. In Layman’s terms, it’s the element in cannabis responsible for getting you high, and is one of the key differentiators between hemp and marijuana.
But what the heck is Delta-8 THC, and what’s all the recent hype about?
Delta-8 THC is an isomer of Delta-9 THC that has been shown to have mild psychoactive effects, as well as analgesic and neuroprotective properties. But what makes Delta-8 so interesting to many consumers and entrepreneurs? Under the 2018 Farm Bill, there is a small legal distinction between Delta-8 and Delta-9 that enables Delta-8 to be extracted from hemp and sold across state lines.
So does that mean you can get high even if your state doesn’t allow for the sale of medical or recreational marijuana?!
To a degree, yes.
Many customers say Delta-8’s effects are very comparable to Delta-9 in its ability to provide relief from pain and inflammation. Where they differ however, is in the psychoactive effects, with consumers describing Delta-8 as having a much more mild “high.”
But is the recent explosion of Delta-8 based on science, or is it all hype? Or does good, ol’ fashioned CBD do the trick if you are looking for homeostatic benefits?
Here at Arcanum, we never recommend a straight CBD isolate. These products lack the all-important benefits of the Entourage Effect (check out this three part blog series if you are new to this: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3). In fact, if you are currently using a full spectrum product, chances are it already has trace amounts of Delta-8! Mind blown?!
The magic happens when products contain as many cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids as possible, all working synergistically to produce maximum efficacy. Despite all the hype, industry metrics are currently showing more popularity in CBG and CBN when paired with CBD over Delta-8 THC.
At Arcanum we pride ourselves on actively improving our products based on the rapidly developing research regarding the synergies of cannabinoids. Currently the ideal product for someone looking to capitalize on the market’s growing efficacy is C3. Developed specially to a 3:2:1 ratio of CBD, CBG, CBN, our C3 tincture is formulated to yield maximum effect.
Full disclosure: CBN is popular for its mild sedative properties. We only recommend taking this product before bed. Hello deep sleep!
So back to our original question, is Delta-8 worth the Hype? Yes, but to a point. Delta-8 is still a fairly new, developing concept in the CBD market. If you are looking for something to give you a mild psychoactive effect, Delta-8 is great. However, If you are searching for a product to help you maximize the benefits of cannabinoids, stick with a good full spectrum product.
Stay healthy, my friends!
