How Dogs Benefit from CBD

Updated: Feb 25

We talk a lot about the amazing benefits of cannabinoids as well as tools and tricks for understanding the human mind and body.

Health and wellness; it’s what we do.

Today’s email is going to take a slight pivot and talk about how your fur baby(s) can benefit from a daily dose of CBD!

Research suggests that CBD can help reduce anxiety, seizures, arthritis, pain and inflammation in dogs, and also support bone and joint health. Like humans, dogs also have an endocannabinoid system responsible for maintaining homeostasis (or balance), and facilitating recovery and even repair functions.

Taking it a step further, a recent study from Colorado State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital yielded an 89% reduction in seizure frequency among dogs included in the analysis. Phase 2 trials are currently underway.

If you’ve been a part of the #ArcanumArmy for any length of time, you’ve heard us preach about the “Entourage Effect,” the sum being greater than the parts. It’s why we use either full or broad spectrum hemp extract, and include other amazing plant compounds like terpenes in many of our products.

Dogs, like humans, will have a greater benefit from CBD when it is administered in a full or broad spectrum extract (as opposed to CBD isolate). Research suggests that dogs are much more sensitive to THC than humans which is why we chose to utilize a broad spectrum extract in Arcanine. Your doggo will still reap the benefits of the Entourage Effect in a product with no trace amounts of THC.

Dosing Doggos (warning: math required!):

  • Research suggests that CBD can be administered in 12 hour intervals.

  • At Arcanum, we recommend .5mg per pound of body weight. There are about 2mg’s per drop of Arcanine (seizure treatment may require a larger dose). -Example: A good dose for 50 pound Fido would be 25mg. This is about 12-13 drops of Arcanine.

**We ALWAYS recommend consulting your vet prior to beginning a new supplementation protocol.
