CBD | Hemo VS Marijuana

Cannabidiol (CBD) extracted from the hemp plant can be just as effective, if not more so than, cannabidiol extracted from marijuana. Effecting factors include production methods, terpene profile and other ingredients that work symbiotically with the cannabidiol.

With all the hype around CBD right now, let’s talk cannabinoids for one second. There are 114 discovered cannabinoids as I write this. Cannabinoids are not only found in hemp and marijuana but in natural substances such as black pepper, rosemary, spinach, liverwort, and other plant-based organisms. The two cannabinoids that are usually the spotlight of mainstream discussion are THC and CBD. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the cannabinoid that is responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana, the “high” or “stoned” feeling. CBD (cannabidiol) is the subject for a plethora of medical studies because of its wide-ranging health benefits, lack of psychoactive effects and it is legality for mainstream sale.

Both hemp and marijuana fall into the category of Cannabis Sativa L; both hemp and marijuana have a lot of cannabinoids.

When extracted, on a molecular level, cannabinoids are cannabinoids. The question one should be asking when deciding between hemp and marijuana cannabinoids is “What are my desired outcomes?”

Marijuana is mainly cultivated indoors under expensive lights, climate control and harvested only when the flowers are ready.

Hemp, on the other hand, grows outdoors and rapidly, thus making hemp more economical than marijuana. Furthermore, essential oils and terpene profiles are FDA approved and can simply be added to hemp extract. Hemp must contain less than .3 percent (0.3%) THC by weight to be considered legal for mainstream sales. In fact, the only place that cannabinoids derived the hemp plant is not legal is in recreational and medicinal marijuana dispensaries.

In conclusion, cannabinoids are cannabinoids, but with marijuana, years of bread, a great cultivar and mother nature puts together the symbiotic medicinal benefits. Marijuana will also have the psychoactive effects of THC. While hemp extract alone does not have the medicinal benefit that a great marijuana strain may have, great producers, can create a tailored terpene and essential oil profile to create outstanding ancillary benefits. Hemp extract will not have the THC and provides a great method for people who do not want the psychoactive effects or cannot work “impaired.”

As always make sure your hemp is activated, organic, extracted using green methods, known- GMO and pesticide-free.
